Volunteer Opportunities
The following are some volunteer opportunities with FOCAS. If you find something that interests you, contact us for more information.
Table Hosts
As you may know, it is through these fundraisers and matching funds that we raise between 70 – 80 percent of our annual operating revenue. The key is to have individuals who appreciate what God is doing in Over the Rhine and who is willing to invite friends, colleagues, and family members to join them at one of these events. Praying and working together, we can have successful events and reach our financial goal of $350,000. Will you be part of the team of 90 table hosts this fall? Our two breakfast fundraisers will be held on Wednesday, September 19th at Kenwood Country Club, and Wednesday, October 3rd at the Sharonville Convention Center. There is no cost for being a table host.
Please email me at sbowers@focas-us.org. We are looking forward to talking to you soon.
Lord’s Pantry Volunteers
The Lord’s Pantry seeks the transformation of lives in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine inner-city community, opening hearts to the work of the Holy Spirit through discipleship and practical expressions of God’s love. Volunteer ministry is important to the Pantry.
These are real sentiments from people who spoke from their heart as to what the Pantry means to them:
Orlando – The Pantry has brought many people to Christ.
Phyllis – The Pantry keeps me clean.
Glen – The Pantry is a refuge for the people to come off the streets and receive the Spirit of God.
David – The Pantry has brought encouragement to me the last 11 years.
Dora – The Pantry gave me a pair of shoes to be able to go on a retreat with my church. You pray for me and my family.
Kindel –It helps me stay focused and off drugs.
Homeless guy who has come to the Pantry for 5 years (he lives in the Drop In Center – we can get prayer, food and love at the Pantry.
12 year male attendee – The Pantry is a big inspiration to me. It’s a gathering place for family and friends to come together to hear and share God’s love. It‘s a reminder of God’s love to me and that God is still there in all our trials.
Andre – The Pantry is an illustration of the Love of God.
Queenie – The Pantry has provided a lot of things for my kids and apartment.
Our friends experience the love of Christ through the collective efforts of caring people who donate finances, volunteer, and staff each of the FOCAS ministries. Each part of the body, doing its part, allows the love of God to touch people like Phyllis, David, Dora, Andre, and Queenie just to name a few. As a result, people are being ministered to, discipled, and experiencing real life change.
The demand on our ministry, during this challenging economy, has only increased. So, to stretch our funds FOCAS has looked for ways to cut back operating costs restructure staff benefits and re-prioritize activities in order to continue meeting the need of those we serve. Please prayerfully consider our continued partnership along with a financial investment to see lives impacted through the love of God.
People feel loved when they have visited the Pantry! People who are very needy, have little resources, and who can be difficult to relate to, have found (and are discovering) the love of God. What better news can a partner in this ministry expect to receive? It’s an affirmation that we are doing what God has called us all to do – love the poor, for they will always be with you! Please call 513-621-5300 if you feel God is leading you to volunteer or donate.
